The album: Rabbits on the Run. The artist: Vanessa Carlton. As my musical taste leans towards artists like Adele and Florence + The Machine, I did not immediately click with Carlton. But after a few songs, I started to enjoy how the strong instruments and her distinctive voice perfectly complement each other. The songs are especially highlighted by their lyrics, which match her voice in their uniqueness. The beat in each song is pretty and soothing; this CD is one you could listen to while doing homework or just relaxing.

As for Carlton, the Pennsylvanian's career has gone through its ups and downs. Her song "A Thousand Miles" peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, probably for its appearance in "White Chicks,", which may be where you've seen it. Though that song brought her name into the spotlight, her style has definitely mellowed out in the past ten years.

Altogether, I would recommend the CD to those who like to listen to artists with beautiful songs. Carlton is a great singer/songwriter to listen to on a lazy Sunday; her pretty voice and lyrics put me in a good mood! A song I would start with is "Dear California," which has witty lyrics like "your face is a paper cut to the heart." Vanessa Carlton's songs are sure to be a present to your heart. I know I'm going to keep listening to her!
