March’s Artist of the Month: Kristin Huff
At Teen Voices, we know you’re more than just a pretty face. But with media feeding us images of air-brushed, size-zero models, sometimes it’s difficult to remember beauty is more than skin deep. That’s why we proudly partnered with that National Editing Disorders Association (NEDA) for NEDAwareness Week (February 26th through March 3rd), hosting a March Artist of the Month contest dedicated to healthy bodies and self-acceptance.
Our Facebook fans voted, and, we’re pleased to announce that Kristin Huff, 17, of Virginia, is the March contest winner! When asked to describe her inspiration for her submission, “Behind the Beauty,” Huff wrote: “I was inspired to create this one night when I was flipping through a magazine and I became so frustrated with how much the media emphasizes what ‘beauty’ is. The media promotes negative ways to be beautiful rather than embracing natural beauty.”
As Teen Voices March Artist of the Month, Huff will receive an official Artist of the Month t-shirt, donated by T-Shirts.com; a free one-year membership to Teen Voices; publication in our online or print magazine; and a chance to exhibit at Blick Art Materials in Boston in 2013.
Huff will advance to our Artist of the Year contest (to be held in January 2013) to compete for a $250 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials-Boston and a full scholarship (tuition, room, and board) to the Pre-College Summer Art Studio at the renowned School of the Museum of Fine Arts—a $4,000 value!
Who will be the next artist of the month? You? Someone you know? Spread the word and spread the love!!! The theme for April is “Power and Leadership.” Enter your power-themed art in our April art contest. Click here for full contest guidelines.
