Poetry: “The Friendless One”

There the children sit
In a crowded café,
Where they stuff their stomachs
And eat their youth away.
There they are…
Laughing, talking
Gossiping, giggling and having fun.
Well… except one.
This one little girl it sitting alone
Despite all the others and the fun they have shown.
There she sits, thinking.
Just thinking.
The kids sometimes stare,
While she looks at their fun.
For that one little girl is
The Friendless One.
She feels their stares,
And she knows full well
That living alone is like living in Hell.
But does she care?
No! Of course not!
Why should she?
These things cannot be changed,
Well, maybe…
No! Of course not!
She shouldn’t change,
Not her life, nor her persona
So there she stays, still lonelier
But what’s to be done
About a Friendless One…
But on she feels,
Who cares?
Not she!
She shouldn’t try and change things,
Well, maybe…
No! Of course not!
Friends are a drag!
They’re about as much fun as a shopping bag.
And like a shopping bag, there’s always a price.
She’d use up energy by acting all nice.
Get real, she feels. Her dreams are done.
She doesn’t want more hassle,
More responsibility,
More work, more drama,
More fun…
No! Of course not!
It just cannot be done.
She’s content with staying the Friendless One.
She’s fine, she’s peachy,
She’s okay, she’s... living…
But is she really?
Because deep in her heart she knows full well
That living alone is like living in Hell.
But the game is over. It’s done, it’s through.
But if it were to happen that she’d meet someone new…
So she leaves the café,
For she knows that it may,
Be worth it to have friends,
Because the loneliness ends.
So she goes back home
With that thought in her head.
Her stomach turning, she lies deep in her bed.
What to say, what to think
What to show, what to do…
What would happen if she were to meet someone new?
Thinking is what you do
When your life begins anew.
So for now
All is said and done,
And say hi if you’re meeting the Friendless One.
