Meet July’s Artist of the Month: Deni Lance

For our July Artist of the Month contest, we asked teens around the world to pull inspiration from nature in creating their art. From deep in the jungle to wandering through the garden, our readers really rose to the challenge! A total of 23 girls from 13 states and 4 countries submitted their art in July’s fierce competition.

Our Facebook fans cast 391 votes in last month’s contest. The winner is Deni Lance, 17, from Meadville, Pennsylvania. Her entry, “A Winter Walk,” cruised to the finish line with 166 votes. Lance wrote that she lives “in a very artistic home” and hopes to go to college for illustration and animation.

“My piece is a water color, and is straight from my imagination,” she wrote. “I got the winter idea while looking through old winter photos and ran with it.”

As July’s Artist of the Month, Lance will receive an official Artist of the Month t-shirt, publication in our online magazine, and a chance to win Artist of the Year (contest to be held in January 2013). The Artist of the Year will win a $250 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials-Boston and a full scholarship (tuition, room and board) to the renowned School of the Museum of Fine Arts’ Pre-College Summer Art Studio – a $4,000 value!
