TIPS Using Teen Voices' Guidance for Grown-ups More Effectively
- Encourage teens to use writing journals as they respond to the Teen Voices online activities. Journals can be a place for the teens to record their thoughts, challenge ideas, reflect on change, and envision their dreams.
- There are many different ways to share the information in Teen Voices online. Reading articles aloud is a helpful strategy to use when you have a group with diverse reading abilities.
- It can be intimidating for some teens to participate in a large group discussion. "Think-Pair-Share" is a helpful activity that addresses this issue. First, allow individuals to respond to a question in writing. Then divide the group into pairs to discuss their responses. In the final part of the activity, ask for volunteers to share their thoughts with the entire group. Having the chance to discuss their thoughts with one person will often encourage teens to participate in a larger forum.
- Create summaries of teens' quiz responses. This provides an open discussion platform to compare an individual's thoughts, feelings, and opinions with others.
- Encourage teens to conduct further research on Teen Voices topics that may be of interest to them. Provide a weekly time for sharing new knowledge.
