Sumru Erkut

Sumru Erkut is an Associate Director and Senior Research Scientist at the Wellesley Centers for Women. She received her doctorate in social psychology from Harvard University. Her studies of women's leadership and youth development from the perspective of gender equity and racial and ethnic diversity have been supported by federal, foundation, corporate, and private funds. She is an evaluator of a number of federal and state-sponsored programs for improving mathematics and science learning in K-12 schools and in informal learning settings such as museums. Her current research at the Wellesley Centers for Women focuses on identity development of adolescents from mixed racial and ethnic backgrounds and she directs the long-term impact evaluation of a middle school comprehensive sex education curriculum. She is on the Advisory Board of Girls' Coalition of Greater Boston and Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice, and formerly on the Advisory Board of Boston Girls' Sport and Physical Activity Project.
