What’s This Month’s Theme?
NOTE: Because Teen Voices is now closed, the Artist of the Month contest is over. Our Artist of the Year will be chosen from among our pool of current Artist of the Month winners. Details to be announced soon.
August: Global Connections
We all speak different languages and have different traditions, customs and backgrounds. This month let's celebrate diversity! And let's celebrate our shared emotions and experiences! What is it that connects women all over the world? How can people and countries work to ending global issues like sex-trafficking, domestic abuse, hunger, and poverty? How can we build a better world and a better future? Can we see past war toward hope, growth, and understanding? What would a world at peace look like?
September: Sisterhood
Traveling pants, or no traveling pants, nothing beats the honesty, love and support we get from sisterhood. Whether you're biological sisters or just close friends, who do you turn to first when you get happy or sad news? Have you ever felt left out? Have you ever been there for someone when they've gone through trying times? Who do you think of when you hear "sisterhood?" How do you celebrate your relationships and sisterhoods?
October: Politics
The presidential election is almost here. Tired of hearing and seeing ad campaigns yet? Or are you hyped up and volunteering to support your preferred candidate? What issues do you think are most important? Are there any issues you think politicians should be addressing, but aren't? Are the needs and perspectives of teen girls visible in this election? Are their voices through voting? What's the status of women in politics? What types of leaders do our nation and this world need?
November: Heritage
We all come from somewhere, and this month is the time to be proud of our family heritage. America is a melting pot with a wealth of culture and history. Where is your family from? What about your family's culture makes you unique? Do you have favorite recipes passed down for generations? What is your favorite tradition? What about stories your grandmother has told you about the good ol' days? What do you want to learn about your heritage and/or culture?
December: Compassion
No matter what holiday you're celebrating, this is a season when you can show your compassion. It's also a time to reflect on the past year and give thanks to those who have touched your life. Who or what are you truly thankful for? What's the greatest gift you could give someone? What does it mean to show compassion toward others? Have you witnessed an act of kindness that inspired you? Are there situations where society isn't showing or giving enough compassion?

I'm inetrested in sending my art work to teen voices but I'm a United Kingdom resident and I was wondering if this restricts me from sending photos of my art work.
Also, I was wondering that if my work 'did' get published and someone decided to reproduce it, if it would still be acknowledged that it was originally mine?
We'd love to see your artwork--we eagerly welcome art from any girl around the world. And yes, if your work is published and/or republished with our permission, your name would still be attached to it. Please submit!
I'm so glad I found this contest! I have a picture that would be perfect for the July contest, but I've also painted work for the June contest. Can I submit them simultaneously or do I have to wait for july to submit the July painting?
Thank you xx
You can submit both now, but you need to specify when you submit which month you are submitting the art for. Thanks.
Hi, I'm so happy I found this contest, and I will submit my works but I have a question related to June's theme.
So.. it's dreams and from what I read from the description it's about future hopes, but can I interpret it in a more abstract way, with nothing with my future? Like dreaming... or so.. I can't really explain.
I'm happy that you're happy! You can definitely interpret the theme of "dreams" in any way that you want. We were just giving a few examples of what it might mean. Part of the fun of art, in my opinion, is that everyone makes their own interpretation. I can't wait to see yours!
is there a size restriction. I like for example if I made a 2 foot by 3 foot painting but the photograph was a resonable size could i submit? Or if it was really long like 30 cm by 100 cm?
Your original piece of art can be any size. The photograph that you take of your masterpiece will need: a resolution of 300 dpi and be in .jpeg format. Image should be no larger than 360 x 504 pixels. (Remember, the size of original artwork may be larger.)
Full submission guidelines may be found here.
Hi, Of corse it is July now but I have an amzing picture for June will i still be able to publish it or not an I am a UK resident so does this exclude me ??
We'd love to have you send the picture you think is more for June and we will consider it for publication. We will not, however, be able to enter it into the June Artist of the Month contest, since that is now closed, but if we can, we will publish it somehow! And no, being a UK resident does not exclude you--we invite and in fact, actively seek, submissions from all over the globe.
I have another question: For the artist of the year, will the artworks of the 12 winners of the artist of the month be voted on facebook or will it be the judges to chose?
awwww man i wish i caught this earlier because i have a couple things i could've submited to Dreams
Hi I wanted to send in work for the July contest
Is it fine if i submit a picture of the artwork?
Please submit them to us anyway, as we may be able to use them to accompany pieces we publish, even if the work isn't part of the contest. And/or look carefully at your works again and see if there is another theme that they might be able to fit when thinking creatively!
Yes, we just need a .jpeg of the artwork. If you win Artist of the Month, then we will need the original artwork for an exhibition. Thanks.
Does portrait art count as original art?
You bet!
hey, i was won dering when we found out if we won
I was just wondering if I could still submit art work to the July contest even though it's August??
No, sorry, you have missed the deadline for the July art contest--it was midnight on July 31.
But we welcome your submissions for the August art contest!
We will post the winner of the July AOM contest on August 16. In the meantime, vote for your favorite(s) on our Facebook page!
i was wondering, do you look at work submitted in the Scholastic Art and Writing awards for the artist of the year? or will you still have to submit your work?
Sorry, but our art contest is no longer running due to the fact that Teen Voices is not in operation at the current time.
So, none of the contests for later months will be running?
Yes, unfortunately, that is correct.
I am from india can I participate i this contest
Sorry, but because Teen Voices is closing down, the contest has ended. While it was operating, yes, you could have participated in the contest if you are from India.
