hello
This is Saghar and Im from Iran and Im 22 years old . I am really interested in ur program. I wonder if I can attend? In what circumstances?
thank you
Hi Saghar-
Thanks for your interest in Teen Voices. The journalism, mentoring, and leadership program we run is held in Boston, and it's for high school girls. College-age young women like you can be involved in Teen Voices as mentors or as interns in the editorial, program, or development departments. Are you planning to come to Boston? If yes, you can contact our volunteer coordinator; if not, maybe you could work w/some teen girls who live near you to help them with their writing or art and have them submit it to us. We welcome submissions of art (see our Artist of the Month guidelines), poetry, fiction, or nonfiction stories. We would especially love to get submissions from girl in Iran, as I don't think we have before. Thanks.
Hi! I Just found out about your contest, and realized it was for people 13 and older TT__TT
i'm only 12, so do you have a contest for younger kids? Or is there like a website call "Kids Voices" or something that you know of?
Hi-Sorry you aren't old enough to submit to us, but I hope you will when you turn 13. With regard to a place where you could submit now, I know of an organization called The Young Voices Foundation (http://www.youngvoicesfoundation.org/) and there's Figment (http://figment.com/), and a contest for kids aged 12 and up at: http://bit.ly/JtwUEn. For art submissions, there's Deviant art (http://www.deviantart.com/). You probably need parental consent to participate in any of these orgs. Have fun!
hi.. this is Rahi from India. i wanted to ask that, i m 19yrs..completed. i have very inspiring poems written in English only. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THIS CONTEST.YOUR ACTIVITY IS SIMPLY GR8..
KINDLY REPLY ME,
RAHI:)
no reply as far ???
kindly answer me!!!!
rahi.
Along with numerous other girls, I'm interested in participating. However, is digital art permitted? The majority of my work is finished on the computer, and I'm not sure if that's allowed. If it isn't, then I'm guessing that only 'traditional' mediums can be used? That's fine, but it would greatly please me if I could stick with my methods.
Also, if we're only 13 and (by some crazy chance...) we win and are absent for one year, are we still withheld from the Pre-College Summer Studio? I believe that such an opportunity shouldn't be held from our grasp, even if our parents have given their consent. However, I'll respect your decisions.
...oh man, I sound old here. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read my questions, and I hope to receive a response soon! Good luck to all fellow artists!
Hi-Yes, digital art is permitted--as long as it is ORIGINAL and not something that you found on the computer already made.
re: the age you need to be to participate in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) summer program, which is the grand prize of our contest, I think that if your parents thought you were old enough to attend the summer session, then you could have a conversation with the SMFA about this and try to prove to them that you are old enough to participate...They gave us a guideline of age of 15, but there may be some wiggle room there. It's completely up to the SMFA--I defer to their wisdom!!!
Hope to see your art work as a submission!
This is a fantastic oppurtunity! Thanks so much for presenting this!

Hello Admins of Teen Voices,
I have a question for any of you who care to listen. Is this contest restricted only for women? I am a male and other than my gender I fit into all the required criteria to enter. I understand that this is to change the world for girls, for the better, but I still find it odd that roughly half the population of teens cannot enter. To me, it seems just a little bit discriminitory, if at all possible I would like to enter these monthly art contests, at least once. After all, is it not in the best interest of us all that we live in an equal community where both men and women are free to make the world better for women while at the same time not putting limitations on the other gender(s)? Even if I do not win, it would still be nice to know that every teen had a chance to change the world for the better.
And if I was able to enter all along, and the blurb at the top of the page is just a typo and/or a formality, than... that's cool.

Hi-
You raise some excellent points, but Teen Voices is a magazine by, for, and about teen girls. We are intentionally creating a single-sex space for girls, because we live in a world where the needs of girls and boys are different, and we live in a world where gender equality has not yet been achieved, so we want to maintain our focus on girls. That's not to say that we don't appreciate males, male allies, or male readers, but by design, only girls aged 13-19 create our content and can enter our contests. We hope you understand.

Hi, I love art and want to participate in your competition, But what are the prizes your website doesn't specifically say.
Hello, I was wondering when are the deadlines for art submission. Specifically June.
Hi-
The deadline is midnight (eastern standard time) on June 30. Can't wait to see your submission!
I was wondering... what exactly can be on the artwork itself? Could I put a signature on it? Does my name, age, email, etc. have to be on it? (Wouldn't all the writing interfere with the work itself?)
Thank you!
I would treat your submission like a regular piece of art...so you probably want to sign it, but that's it. You will be filling out a consent form that is attached to your submission, which will be a pdf/photo of your actual piece of art. Thanks.
Do you offer cash prizes?
Nope, sorry, no cash prizes.
Hello,
I just submitted a piece of artwork for July but I forgot to name my file correctly as specified in the contest guidelines. Is that a problem? Should I resubmit my piece, submit a different one, or do nothing?
Also can I submit two pieces for the July contest, or do I have to wait for August?
Please email me at: katie@teenvoices.com and send me your name, and the name of your art and I will be sure it gets filed correctly. ANd yes, you can submit more than one piece of art for July. I can't wait to see your work!

I was wondering if you could do videos for this contest?
No, no videos. The art can be 3-dimensional, but ultimately, the art needs to be able to be in a pdf format (i.e. you can take a picture of a 3-D object), but we can't handle video. Thanks for checking!
It does state in the guidelines that any form of art is sumbitable, however does poetry fall under "art". I was just wondering.
We were thinking visual art, but you are correct that the guidelines don't exclude poetry, so you could submit poetry if you want, and see how our judges and readership respond. It's your choice...
I checked the "submit your work" for the contest. It does not give a way to enter poetry. In Browse, however, may I send in a Word Doc. and say in the description that this is my form of art? If not, thank you for you time, if so... yipee.
I was making a piece for the month november...but I won't be able to submit that anymore?..
Correct. Sorry.
