Is there a specific theme? Or do you create your own?
There's a different theme each month for the Artist of the Month contest. The first theme, for art due by Jan. 31, is girls in schools.
What is the Theme for Jan 2012?
Girls in Schools. We hope you submit!
Are we allowed to know what each theme is for each month beforehand? (For example, knowing all 12 themes in this month time, January) Or can we only know when it is currently that month?
Also, in order to qualify, are you required to send at least one work of art per month or can you skip some months and not send anything but still be eligible for Artist of the Month or Year since you still sent work during other months (For example, not sending anything in January but submitting pieces in March and June)? Thanks
We hope to post the themes for all 12 months within the next week or so...We are still finalizing them. We will let you know as soon as we know!
You may submit as often as you want. You definitely do not need to submit something every month to be eligible to be Artist of the Year. Our facebook readership will vote among the 12 semi-finalists next Jan (2013) and the artist with the most votes will win Artist of the Year. So the more artwork you submit each month between now and then, the more likely your artwork will be selected as Artist of the Month, the stepping stone to being Artist of the Year...
where should we submit work concerning this contest please?

Thanks
PLease according to what do you choose artist of the year ?
Thanks
What is the cut off date each month?
The 12 Artists of the Month will be semi-finalists for the Artist of the Year. Next January (2013), our Facebook followers will vote among these 12 artists/pieces of art to determine the winner.
The cut off date each month is midnight on the last day of the month.
Does the entry have to be visual art, or can it be a piece of writing?(:
For the Artist of the Month contest, your art needs to be visual art (or a photo of it, if it's something like a sculpture). If you have a piece of writing you'd like to share, we'd love to see it! Just submit it through our home page where the photo of the pencils is and it says "get published" (in the grey horizontal bar). Thanks
Hi I was curious as to what is the currant theme? also, when is the deadline for each month?
the publishing policay says "Submission of any Work for publication in Teen Voices shall confer upon Teen Voices a royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferrable license to reproduce, display and publish your Work, and to authorize others to reproduce, display and publish your Work, in any manner, medium or form."
Does this mean you'll actually lose the rights to the work you posted and 'give" it to Teen Voice. If not, does it still allow Teen Voice to, for instance, make prints out of it and sell them (so for commercial use). I'd really like to know this before I post my work up here
Quynh-
I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that by signing the agreement, you give Teen Voices the right to use your work, and to let us grant permission for other, appropriate organizations to republish the work. We don't have to pay you for using your work (i.e. it's a royalty free agreement). You can send your work elsewhere for publication, even if we publish it (i.e. our use of it is not exclusive). As a matter of practice, as a nonprofit, we do not create prints of girls' art and sell them. But you give Teen Voices the right to reprint, display, and publish your work, and to grant these rights to other parties that we work with.
Re: the art contest specifically, you may want to be reminded that we are planning to have an art exhibit at Blick Art Supply, Boston, in 2013, showcasing all of the work of the 12 Artist of the Month winners, so we do plan to display some of the work. I don't expect that we will charge money to see the work, but since that's not my decision, I can't say for sure.
Elsewhere in the consent form, it says that Teen Voices reserves the right to edit your submitted Work prior to publication, which means we can tweak it. With written publications, that usually means changing the wording slightly. With art, that might mean, for example, adapting the size or shape slightly to fit a preexisting frame.
I hope this response sheds some light on your overarching questions, but again, since I'm not a lawyer, you may want to seek professional legal counsel if you have more specific questions.
Best,
Katie Wheeler, Editor
Whats the theme for June, July and August?
June=dreams; July=nature; Aug=global connections
You can read more at:http://www.teenvoices.com/2012/01/15/enter-our-artist-of-the-month-contest/
(just click on "Theme of the Month"). We hope you submit and look forward to seeing your artwork!
Does this include expenses such as airline flights?
So I already submitted my art, although I forgot to put an indication that it's for July. What should I do?
No, sorry, this does not include air fare. But it does include room and board...
Hi-Please email me: katie@teenvoices.com and we will be sure that we file and submit your work in the month you want. Thanks.
Does she get food? lol seriously though^^ If it's alright, could we get a list of what all we might have to pay for? And do we actually have to travel alone(you know, for the fearful ones?)?
You would receive full funding for the tuition, room, and board for the summer course that the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. You would be responsible for traveling to and from Boston and other incidentals. I will need to check in with the SMFA to get more details about what else you might need to pay for. I will email my contact and get back to you.
Hi-Here is the clarification from the vice president of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, which is donating the full scholarship to us:
The AOM winner will receive a full scholarship to the 3-week Pre College Summer Studio. This includes tuition, all meals, housing, and activities. The student is responsible for travel expenses to and from Boston and any spending money she/he may want to have while here.
He noted that they rarely give out full scholarships to this program, so we are very lucky.
When do we find out if we won?
On August 15, we will post the results on FB. THanks.
When is the deadline for the august art contest?
-with thanks maryam
The August art contest was over as of 8-31-12 at midnight.
