When you hear the word ‘college’ what do you think? Freedom from your parents, parties, long hours in the library? Well, college is more than just independence and a degree—it’s a life-changing experience! How ready are you to embark on this journey? Take our quiz and find out!

1. It’s your high school graduation and…

1. I can’t wait to go to college!
2. I’m sad about leaving behind friends and teachers, but I’m pretty sure my feelings will change during the summer.
3. I don’t want to walk to the podium because if I do I will get my diploma and that officially means I graduated.

2. What are you looking for in a college?

1. A certain major that’s offered, a good financial aid package, and a particular size―big or small.
2. I know I want to go to a college or university but I still haven’t gone into specifics about what I want.
3. I’m not even done with high school, why are you asking me about college?!

3. Your ideal college visit is something like…

1. Going on a college tour, having an interview with an admissions officer, attending an info session, and visiting the school bookstore before I leave.
2. Walking around the campus, buying some lunch, and visiting a classroom.
3. Hitting up a college party or sporting event.

4. You have a 15-page research paper to turn in a week before you graduate high school. How do you manage the situation?

1. I carefully plan what I’m going to write, research my topic, go to the library, and make sure I’m not working on it the night before it’s due.
2. I pick a topic but don’t start writing until three days before it’s due.
3. Why do it now when I can do it the night before? It really doesn’t matter that much.

5. You’re browsing through the catalogs of certain colleges and you come across the page with the price of tuition. What are your thoughts on how you’re going to pay for college?

1. I’ll fill out financial aid forms and research other options such as scholarships, grants, work study, and loans.
2. I’ve heard of financial aid but I haven’t picked up the forms yet. I plan to meet with a counselor at school.
3. I assume that someone is going to pay for college but I think about saving just in case.

6. Thinking about moving in with your first-year roommate makes you feel…

1. Very excited and happy. I can’t wait to meet her!
2. I guess it’s OK. It will be nice to have someone to study with.
3. Nervous, since I’ve never roomed with anyone before.

7.  It’s the end of your first day of class at college. What do you do afterwards?

1. Explore the campus, and meet as many people as possible.
2. Grab a bite with my roommate or classmate.
3. Head home to meet up with high school buddies.

If most of your answers were As, you are well prepared and know what you want to get out of college. Now, let’s go load up the van and be on our way to campus!

If most of your answers were Bs, you still need to do some more research about college to get a little more acquainted with what to expect. Talk to your college counselor. Check out some college-related books and magazines in the library. Otherwise, you’re good to go.

If most of your answers were Cs, you might want to rethink what you want to do after high school. Meet with your guidance counselor to discuss your future plans about college, jobs, etc. You still have time, but don’t let it go ‘til the last possible minute.
