Top Ten Ways to Have a Slammin' 16
To be "super," a 16th birthday does not need to be filled with a Mercedes Benz, an outrageous party, or a gigantic gourmet cake. Instead, a 16th birthday with Teen Voices is filled with self acceptance, inspiring goals, and awesome activist ideas. Read on to find out how to transform your Sweet 16 into a Slammin' 16.

10. Celebrate some slammin' women from history as you and your friends celebrate you. Have each friend choose a woman from history she admires, sharing what she did to inspire her. If you want, write it down in a special journal. You and your friends could look back at it for inspiration for the next 16 years.
9. Who says you have to limit resolutions to New Year's? Choose 16 goals you want to accomplish in your years or even months to come. You can find inspiration from books like Life Lists for Teens by Pamela Espeland.
8. In lieu of presents, ask your guests to donate $16 to the charity of your choice. Whether your cause is animal rights, domestic violence, or helping the homeless, each gift will help make a difference.
7. Starting your 16th year off on a crafty note with an old plate and decoupage. Decoupage is glue like substance that lets you take paper and permanently stick them on different surfaces. You can cut out letters from a magazine and put a poem on the plate or put different pictures and words, and in the end, you all will have a cool wall decoration and a memento from the party. 6. Have a good ol' fashioned sleepover. Bust out cookie dough, sleeping bags, board games, and your favorite childhood movies. Reminisce about the bits and pieces from girlhood as you celebrate coming closer to adulthood.
5. Put a Teen Voices spin on an Olympic-style party. You could include a "Poem Relay" where teams have each girl write a line of a poem for 5 minutes. Read them out loud for some funny rhymes.
4. Make a scrap book of your first 16 years and have all your friends bring pictures and memorabilia to add to it. You can write when you first met each other, their favorite memories of you, and all the different moments that helped make you the slammin' teen you are today.
3. List 16 things you like about yourself. Whether it is your poetry skills, how you break down a math equation, or even your scars from playing field hockey, embrace everything and anything that is you!
2. Make your 16th really sweet with a chocolate fondue party. Mix and match healthy choices like apples and strawberries with more sugary options like pound cake cubes and marshmallows.
1. Celebrate Teen Voices' 16th birthday by writing a poem about turning 16 and sending it to Teen Voices!
