The response was fantastic, and then we asked our Facebook fans to determine the winner. In all, our Facebook fans submitted more than 1,450 votes. We’re pleased to announce that Jayantika Arora, 19, of India, is the April contest winner!
Our Facebook fans voted, and, we’re pleased to announce that Kristin Huff, 17, of Virginia, is the March contest winner! When asked to describe her inspiration for her submission, “Behind the Beauty,” Huff wrote: “I was inspired to create this one night when I was flipping through a magazine and I became so frustrated with how much the media emphasizes what ‘beauty’ is. The media promotes negative ways to be beautiful rather than embracing natural beauty.”
Power is such a complex word. We hear it all the time, but what is power, really? Where does it come from? How do you get it? What does power look like? How does the “in” crowd at your school gain power and how do they use it? What about those who feel powerless? Is power the leaders, politicians, or our nations? Or is power lay in the hands of the people? What if people everywhere used their power only for good, instead of bad?
From professional artists and Teen Voices staff to talented teens, all equipped with a wide array of knowledge and experience, Teen Voices covered the bases in selecting our Artist of the Month Contest judges. Each month during 2012, the 12 judges will pick their favorite submissions corresponding to the monthly theme which might be love, school, beauty, or body image. This month, we want you to show us the love. Love comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. What do you think true love look like? Does it come in the form of a kind-hearted friend who always sticks up for you? Is love a faithful dog who waits patiently by the bus stop for you after school? Is it romance–is love simply the butterflies in your stomach from your first kiss? Is love always happiness, or does love also come with pain and heartache? Get creative and show us where your heart lies this month.
To kick off our first-ever Artist of the Month contest, we asked girls worldwide to create art inspired by the theme Girls in School. And create they did! We received paintings, sketches, and photographs from four states and three countries.Our Facebook fans submitted 2,041 votes, as eight artists competed for the title of January’s Artist of the Month. After tallying the votes, we’re pleased to announce that Dina Alassaad, 16, of Lebanon (yes, the country, not the town in New Hampshire!) is this month’s winner.
